Consultant Anaesthetist:
Dr Bernard Norman

Dr Bernard Norman qualified as a doctor in 1990 and has worked as an anaesthetist since 1992. He was granted Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1994 and was appointed as a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 1998.

Bernard trained in paediatric anaesthesia at Great Ormond Street Hospital and currently has a busy NHS and private practice looking after both children and adults. He is one of the principle anaesthetists for the charity Facing the World which cares for children with severe facial abnormalities (www.facintheworld.net).

One of Bernard’s roles is the Risk Manager for Anaesthetics at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital which involves ensuring patient safety in all aspects of their anaesthetic care. He is also an assessor for the GMC and undertakes advisory medico-legal work in relation to patient safety.

Bernard and his GP wife have two children both starting at secondary school and in his spare time is a runner and a swimmer.

Consultant Anaesthetist:
Dr Richard Waddington MA, MB BS, FCARCSI

Richard Waddington has been a Consultant Anaesthetist at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2008. He is the Trust Lead for Paediatric Anaesthesia and Chair of the Paediatric Surgical Forum. He is an active member of the Thames Paediatric Anaesthetic Group and the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland. He is an Instructor for both Paediatric and Adult Life Support.

Richard began his undergraduate medical training at Wadham College, Oxford before completing clinical training at University College and Middlesex School of Medicine. His anaesthetic training began at the Royal Free Hospital in 1996 and finished at St. George’s Hospital, working at most of the District General and Teaching Hospitals in a clockwise direction between the two. He completed a fellowship year at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2008, including 3 months on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. His main sub-speciality interest is paediatric anaesthesia, but he also works in adult ENT, general surgery and urology and obstetrics.

He is an avid cyclist and photographer and proud father of twins.
